Yes beware of getting a pussy cat, they can get you infected and ruin your spleen. Los Angeles is a cat friendly town and it is hard for Apartments to ban owners with their own pussy cats. In addition cats are not required leashes and are allowed to roam outside of the home without supervision.
Keep your pussy at Home
If the cat isn't housebroken most owners will not keep their cats at home. Cat ladies love cats and will feed herds of cats until the animal control folks come around. House trained cats (with no experience to the dangers outside the home) should not be let outside without supervision. Pussycats may be attacked by vicious large fanged dogs and may not survive their virgin encounter with dogs.
"What kind of protection can I give my virgin Pussycat?" Only experienced supervisors should chaperon cats without experience to the outdoors. Careless or inexperienced supervisors may fail in protecting their Pussycat charges.
If your Pussycat is infected with Feline disease, what can I do?
I believe there are antibiotics to cure Feline disease. If you are scratched be an infected Pussy seek a health care professional.

Gross!
I'm not a cat lover. I just don't trust them.
I have a love for cats but my husband even more so. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of luck with cats, they have a short survival rate. I don't know, something different has happened to all of them. One we got from a vets that said he was well but he died 2 days later, never went out of the house, another was a kitten who got feline lukemia from the momma cat, And so my husband and I decided to have pity on the cat population and let other people adopt them. As for illness, I had cat-scratch fever (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_scratch_disease) as a child and they medicated me but it was 6 months before the doctors knew what to call it. That was in 1952 and The cat was recognized as the natural reservoir of the disease in 1950 by Dr. Robert Debré. Judy Dolan was the first person to be diagnosed with the disease in the United States of America
@mommachatter - Thank you, my post was designed to be more funny than factual....
I love my cat. And I don't let her out.
We had one cat that hated a gal at church. Every time she came over, he would attack her and really got his fangs into her hand once!!! She quit visiting us, but did not sue is either.

I'm a retired nurse and we would see cat scratch fever

"BEWARE OF DOG -- and the cat can't be trusted either"
A neighbor once had this funny sign in front of his house. Maybe he could add, "the pussy is not housebroken,"
