  • Just rambling on Cantonese

Hong Kong and California has speakers in Cantonese. There is the village style Cantonese (less educated ones, not city speak) and the City type of Cantonese.

    Comparing Cantonese vs Mandarin

    English   Cant.   Mand.
    one         yut      eee
    two         yee     err
    three        san     san
As you can see no accent tones (I don't know it that well but cantonese has five tones but mandarin has only four.) The written language is the same (almost) but sometimes meaning and local meanings are a bit different. As you can see the number three has the same sound.

Do I see a future for Cantonese? A lot of music and movies are produced in Chinese Cantonese but exported without the Cantonese soundtrack. I suppose Cantonese will die out because it is not being spread like Japanese Amine or Korean soap operas.

Daw jah, thank you for reading....
