Lotus root is primarily an asian food. The India area reveres the flower because it is so beautiful and placed in
microsoft file: Even in Los Angeles we have a problem growing Lotus. They drained Echo Park Lake in order to redo the growing area for lotus. If successful Los Angeles could continue the Lotus blossom festival.
How does Lotus root taste? Well it grows in muddy water and it takes a while to wash off the mud. It takes a sharp knife to cut because it is a tough root when raw. Cooked it is not as soft as pasta but it will be edible to people like me who don't have much teeth.
Edit: My bad the microsoft photo of a lotus is not the one that I am describing.

Most aquatic water plants that form lily pads are called Lotus, but this picture is of a tropical water lily, rather like a red onion bulb.
@TheBlogFather - Thank you, I was sort of lazy and thought that the microsoft picture was similar enough. That is inexcusable for a botanist like me....
@PPhilip - That's a big flower!
I've never seen lotus root before, only in pictures. I'd probably have to drive a long distance to a store that sells it.
I enjoy Lotus Root especially in a soup. I read somewhere Lotus Root is good for maintaining good general health and for losing weight.
