Rednecks
@Babyboomerjill mentions rednecks but it has both cultural and political significance.Comedians have made a lighthearted attempt to define what a redneck means. From being a hard working outdoors white redneck has the connotation of working with the condition of not having much money. Hence there are redneck inventions like
this one to secure your car. It may look tacky but it works.Charlie Daniels released the 2010 version of “What the world needs is a few more rednecks.” Buy it on iTunes for it is now one of our anthems as Rednecks. A few lines from the song:
What this world needs is a few more rednecks
Some people ain’t afraid to take the stand
What this world needs is a little more respect
For the Lord and the law and the workin? manWe could use a little peace and satisfaction
Some good people up front to take the lead
A little less talk and a little more action
And a few more rednecks is what we needI was raised on beans and cornbread
And I like my chicken fried
Yes, I drive a pick-up truck
And I’m full of American pride

i like that security system. right up until the point where the door completely rusts through. i like jeff foxworthy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WAQGDa9pJ8
i associate redneck with those who work hard with their bodies, iv'e never been sure of what the term really meant. and yes all workers deserve due respect for what they do, even those who are watching tv and eat potato chips...some even do both....
I would suggest reading The Redneck Manifesto
Rednecks are ok with me.
There are several meanings to the Red Necks. I like the car with the padlock.
yes, rednecks are ok with me. They're the ones who prayer at the rodeo and put their hand over their chest at the reciting of the Pledge of Alliegence and are the ones you see quietly saying grace at the Whataburger.
The Term REDNECK comes from the communities that teased the boys who were farm hands and sat on a tractor all day burning their necks but had little or no education making them kind of stupid. That is what some of my male cousins are sadly, from my mothers side.
Actually many poor people do those cutting corners kind of things but are not rednecks. Hench my other side of the family who were poor and Native. We had a term for it it was "Indian done."
@promisesunshine - I am spoiled by safe neighborhoods and have an inexpensive combination lock to lock my bicycle. I suppose a unharden chain like in the photo is pretty easy to break but is probably cheaper than to rekey the lock on that car door.
@locomotiv - There are a lot of hardworking women out there and they should get a rep like some of the rednecks. I guess decent hard working and honest women is really more common than just hard working and honest men.
I try hard to find a nice compromise of working hard and relaxing hard. Xanga is pretty relaxing at times and today's blog was not very negative.
@BenelliMan - @C_L_O_G - Fortunately I did not go really deep into what a redneck really can mean. I like people who are decent, hardworking and know how to joke about themselves.
I am not poor but kind of lazy. There are a lot of half way measures I try to get away with but I am surrounded by quality folks who want things done without compromise.
For instance I have a water pipe that come out of the ground and have it just barely above the ground. I think the city expects it to be at least six inches above the ground.
I wonder about "Indian done" and will check it out.
You should hear them describe how they make wine. It's enough to make your hair curl.
hahha... i think that's a bit too overdone. or just plain paranoid.
